This workshop is designed to provide comprehensive introduction to standard setting for written tests of knowledge. We will cover both theoretical and practical aspects of test-centred standard setting using the Angoff, Ebel and Cohen methods, applied to Single Best Answer (SBA) test items. The underlying principles of the methods and the differences between them will be discussed, and practical aspects of standard setting will also be explored.
Aim: This workshop is designed for health professions educators who want a comprehensive introduction to standard setting for written tests of knowledge.
Objectives: Participants will
1. become familiar with the evidence base for the different methods currently in use
2. be able to understand the steps in the various methods
3. have gained experience in applying them to written tests
